A brief look at the history of the wicker beach chair:

The earlier production of weaved wicker beach chairs, with a higher back and wrap around sides, goes as far back as to the end of the 16th century and has its origins within the European basket-weaving craft. In 1882 the Rostock court basket weaver master Wilhelm Bartelmann created the first wicker beach chair and is credited with being its inventor. Wicker beach chairs are found at just about every vacation resort and beach around the North and Baltic Sea and can be rented out from spring to fall. The wicker beach chair is still an iconic symbol of German relaxation which has optically remained the same through two world wars as well as through social and industrial revolutions and even stood the test of time during Germany's division into east and west.

The wicker beach chair today:

The modern roofed wicker beach chair is a piece of seating furniture specifically designed for the beach which has also found its way into gardens, on patios and balconies. It is also sneaking its way into winter gardens, living rooms and even into larger bathrooms. Even young people have found coolness in having their own wicker beach chair in their rooms. The modern beach chair is made up of a two-piece wooden frame with polyethylene weaving. The top component makes up the half-rounded dome covered seating area. Due to its weather-proofed upholstery, the wicker beach chair is an ideal protection for example against wind, sun, rain or gusts of sand.

Furthermore, the modern wicker beach chair is equipped with several amenities which will offer its owner the utmost in comfort. Among them is a reclining function with 4 possible positions accompanied by two retractable footrests which turn the wicker beach chair into a full recliner. But, the comfort does not stop there. The chair also has two neckrests, two throw pillows, two foldable side tables and a flexible swiveling sunblind for even more comfort. The frame of the chair is made of durable, treated hardwood. The chair is also furnished with two handles one on each side in order to easily transport the wicker beach chair from one place to another and all hinges are made of stainless steel.
